A Los Feliz home linked to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar keeps its garden-stage appeal
A garden amphitheater and a hidden lounge give Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s former Los Feliz home two very different gathering places.

A natural amphitheater is an unusual reason to remember a house with a long celebrity history. At the Seyler House in Los Feliz, it is part of a garden landscape that gives outdoor entertaining several different settings. The property has a documented connection to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, but its appeal goes beyond a famous former resident: the grounds offer a way to gather that feels different from another large indoor lounge.
Realtor.com’s October 7 report says the house sold on October 6, 2026, for $7.495 million, ending actor Aaron Paul’s ownership. Ben Belack’s listing records the same price, although its status field still shows Pending. This is a later sale of a home associated with Abdul-Jabbar, not a sale by the basketball legend or evidence that he currently lives there.

Read source ↗ The broker’s history places the 1922 Spanish Colonial Revival house among the work of architect Stiles O. Clements. It also names Abdul-Jabbar among the property’s past custodians, alongside several actors. The listing does not establish the dates of the athlete’s residence, so the connection should stay historical rather than being assigned to a particular season of his career.

The house itself measures 4,026 square feet, with four bedrooms, according to the agent. That scale makes the outdoor space especially interesting. On a 1.45-acre hillside parcel, the grounds include terraces, a pool, areas of lawn, a koi pond and the amphitheater. Rather than relying on one oversized patio, the arrangement offers several places for a conversation, a meal or time away from a group.
Inside, the historical finishes provide another point of interest. The broker documents exposed beams, vintage tile, stained glass and hand-painted surfaces, and credits Tim Curry’s earlier restoration of original details. Paul later engaged Commune Design in 2019. Those descriptions suggest a property whose changes were made around an existing architectural identity, rather than a house stripped of its character with each new owner.
The listing also describes a concealed passage to a speakeasy, an entertaining feature with a very different mood from the open garden. It is the contrast between those settings that makes the house worth a closer look: one offers enclosure and surprise, while the other opens gatherings to the landscape.
For a home with so many famous associations, the most useful takeaway may be the simplest one. Giving guests a choice of places to spend time can matter as much as the size of the rooms. Which would you choose for an evening with friends: the tucked-away lounge or the garden amphitheater?
