Adams’ injury leaves Rams short at receiver as defensive losses mount

Los Angeles must replace Poona Ford and Blake Grupe for the season, with Kobie Turner also headed to IR.

  • The Rams need new answers at receiver, defensive tackle and kicker after Sean McVay's Monday injury update. Davante Adams will miss an estimated six to 10 weeks with a ruptured hamstring, while Poona Ford and Blake Grupe are out for the season. Kobie Turner is also headed to injured reserve.

The announcements followed an 18-16 loss to Arizona that dropped Los Angeles to 2-4. Adams pulled up on a route without contact late in that game, leaving an offense that was already having trouble separating from the Cardinals.

ESPN's Adam Schefter discussed the injury in Monday's NFL Live coverage:

  • Stafford loses one of his main receivers

Adams had 30 catches for 480 yards and four touchdowns through six games. McVay's estimate takes that production out of the lineup for several weeks without offering a firm date for his return.

Ian Rapoport reported that Adams is expected to have a procedure on the hamstring tendon. That remained an expected procedure Monday; the report did not establish that it had already happened.

Puka Nacua is still part of Matthew Stafford's offense, but the work behind the Rams' two leading receivers has been limited. The Associated Press reported that Konata Mumpfield's eight catches for 127 yards were the third-most among Los Angeles receivers this season. McVay now needs the rest of the group to take on more.

  • The defensive front gets thinner

Ford ruptured his triceps, ending his season. Turner's groin injury sends him to injured reserve. The Rams are losing both while Myles Garrett remains unavailable to begin practicing, according to NFL.com.

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo relayed the Adams, Turner and Grupe updates from McVay:

  • Grupe was injured trying to tackle a returner on kickoff coverage in his Rams debut. His season-ending knee injury means Los Angeles must address the kicking position again before going to Las Vegas on Sunday.

McVay has to prepare for the Raiders with several jobs changing at once. Adams' replacement work comes alongside two missing defensive tackles and another opening at kicker.
