Alabama stayed within two points of Tennessee at halftime Saturday, but its offense never gave the Crimson Tide a chance to finish the comeback. The Vols forced four turnovers, allowed 201 yards and held Alabama scoreless after the break in a 26-10 win at Neyland Stadium.
The loss dropped Alabama to 5-2 overall and 3-2 in the SEC. No. 14 Tennessee improved to 6-1 and 3-1, winning a third consecutive home meeting in the rivalry behind DeSean Bishop's 159 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
One yard Alabama could not get
The Tide's best opening after halftime ended at Tennessee's 40-yard line. Facing fourth-and-one, Alabama handed to Daniel Hill, who was stopped for no gain. Jeremiah Telander and Nathan Robinson helped finish the play, returning the ball to an offense that had settled for field goals throughout the first half.

Field goals had kept the game close
Cooper Ranvier provided all of Tennessee's first-half points. His field goals from 29, 33, 41 and 34 yards gave the Vols a 12-10 lead, even as their inability to score a touchdown left Alabama within reach.
Keelon Russell supplied the Tide's only touchdown on a 19-yard run in the second quarter. Conor Talty's 42-yard field goal shortly before halftime cut the deficit to two. Alabama never led and never scored again.
Russell passed for 147 yards and threw two interceptions. Alabama finished with 54 net rushing yards and converted only two of 13 third downs. Tennessee recorded five sacks, including two each from Telander and Tyree Weathersby.
Dejuan Lane and Kayin Lee intercepted passes. Lee's pick in the end zone ended Alabama's final threat in the last minute, closing a game in which the Tide had remained close through halftime but could not sustain a scoring drive after it.
