Saquon Barkley was ruled out with a hamstring injury during Philadelphia’s 24-20 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. The Eagles initially listed him as questionable to return before downgrading him to out in the second quarter.
Barkley finished with two carries for eight yards and one reception for two yards. Tank Bigsby took over and carried 14 times for 55 yards; Will Shipley added six carries for 23 yards. Those are the completed game totals from ESPN’s final box score.
Barkley limped away after a six-yard run early in the first quarter and went to the sideline medical tent before heading to the locker room. Yahoo Sports’ Chris Cwik reported Bigsby’s entry, and For The Win independently reported the early exit. The Eagles’ embedded initial injury notice records the earlier questionable designation; their final game report confirms he could not return.

Philadelphia entered the matchup without wide receiver DeVonta Smith and tight end Dallas Goedert. Smith’s hamstring injury and Goedert’s knee injury kept them on the official inactive list. Right tackle Lane Johnson was a late inactive for personal reasons, while fellow tackle Fred Johnson remained out with a knee injury.
The Eagles led 20-10 at halftime but did not score in the second half. Two late Kyren Williams touchdowns gave Los Angeles the victory. Philadelphia finished with 172 total yards and went 0-for-12 on third down.
Bigsby’s 14 carries provide the confirmed workload from this game. The Eagles have not announced a recovery timetable for Barkley or a backfield plan for their next game.
October 6 update: Eagles confirm Bigsby’s IR move
The Eagles announced Tuesday that Tank Bigsby has been placed on injured reserve. Their official report says he left late in the fourth quarter against the Rams after a rushing attempt and medical evaluation, having carried most of the backfield workload after Barkley’s first-quarter exit. The IR announcement confirms Bigsby’s roster status; it does not announce a return date for Barkley or name Philadelphia’s next starting running back.
