  • Trinidad Chambliss threw three first-half touchdown passes and ran for another score in the fourth quarter as No. 9 Ole Miss beat No. 13 Missouri 31-3 on Saturday in Oxford.

Missouri quarterback Austin Simmons returned to face his former team and finished with 339 passing yards. Those yards produced only an opening field goal. The Tigers missed a short kick, failed to turn a third-quarter takeaway into points and ended their final possession with an interception near the goal line.

Ole Miss improved to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the SEC. Missouri fell to 5-2 and 2-2, heading into its bye week after its second conference loss.

  • Chambliss builds the lead before halftime

Blake Craig’s 27-yard field goal put Missouri ahead 3-0 midway through the first quarter. Chambliss answered with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Caleb Odom, then added scoring throws of 21 yards to Horatio Fields and 17 yards to Caleb Cunningham in the second quarter.

The Rebels led 21-3 at halftime. Their third touchdown followed a Missouri possession that had reached the red zone with help from Cayden Lee’s 43-yard reception. Craig missed the ensuing 23-yard field goal, and Ole Miss drove 80 yards in 10 plays for Cunningham’s score.

Chambliss completed 20 of 36 passes for 241 yards without an interception. Cunningham led the Rebels with 61 receiving yards, while Odom caught four passes and Fields had two receptions for 44 yards.

  • Missouri’s passing totals cannot rescue the offense

Donovan Olugbode caught nine passes for 127 yards for Missouri. Lee added five catches for 62 yards against his former school, and Jude James finished with five receptions for 57 yards.

The Tigers had little support from their running game. Jamal Roberts gained 39 yards on 20 carries, and Missouri finished with 39 net rushing yards as a team. Simmons went 25 of 44 without a touchdown.

Missouri briefly had an opening after halftime when Santana Banner recovered a Kewan Lacy fumble. The Tigers could not score, and neither team added points during the third quarter. Chambliss eventually pushed the lead to 28-3 with a five-yard touchdown run early in the fourth.

Lacy still finished with 122 rushing yards on 16 carries. Makhi Frazier added 101 on 15 attempts, helping Ole Miss gain 257 yards on the ground and 498 overall. The Rebels converted nine of 14 third downs and kept Missouri chasing the game.

Lucas Carneiro added a 38-yard field goal before Landon Barnes intercepted Simmons to close out another empty Missouri scoring chance. The Tigers had moved the ball through the air, but Ole Miss controlled the running game and the possessions that decided the result.
