Charlotte boos the Hornets through a 128-81 loss in their first home game since the LaMelo Ball trade

The sellout crowd turned on the team by halftime as Atlanta rolled to the biggest win in Hawks history. Brandon Miller, days into a $209 million extension, went 1 for 11 from 3.

  • Charlotte fans got their first look at the post-LaMelo Ball Hornets on Friday night and booed them off the floor. The Atlanta Hawks won 128-81 at Spectrum Center, the largest margin of victory in Hawks history.

  • The Associated Press called the Ball trade "a widely unpopular decision in Charlotte," and the crowd of 19,524 made that clear. The Hornets were booed loudly walking off at halftime, down 25. The boos got louder in the third quarter, and Atlanta's lead reached 49 in the fourth.

This was a 44-win team last season. Against Atlanta, it shot 34% from the field, went 11 for 51 from 3-point range and turned the ball over 27 times. The Hawks scored 25 points off those turnovers.

  • Brandon Miller is the face of the new plan, and he has not started well. He signed a five-year, $209 million extension this week, a franchise record, and then went 2 for 14 with six points on Friday. He is 4 for 25 from deep in two games, per the AP. Naz Reid led Charlotte with 17.

  • There is an injury excuse. Kon Knueppel, last season's Rookie of the Year runner-up, missed his second straight game with a hamstring injury, and starting point guard Coby White (calf) and Grant Williams (hamstring) were also out. Coach Charles Lee said all three are making progress but gave no timetable.

The schedule gives fans no time to cool off. Miami comes to Charlotte on Saturday night in a rematch of last season's play-in game.
