  • The Cowboys re-signed Emari Demercado to their active roster Tuesday, restoring a running back they waived last week to make room for Tyler Smith’s return.

Dallas also signed guard Nick Leverett to the practice squad and released cornerback Alex Austin from that unit, the team’s public-relations account announced. Demercado’s move is to the 53-man roster; Leverett’s is to the practice squad.

  • Demercado has appeared in two games for Dallas this season, carrying five times for 15 yards. The Cowboys’ Oct. 8 update confirmed those totals when they waived him as the corresponding move for Smith’s activation.

  • The return gives Dallas another option alongside Javonte Williams and Tyler Goodson as it prepares for Sunday night at Green Bay. The transaction does not establish a change in the order of that backfield or an expanded workload for Demercado.

Leverett’s move follows Dallas releasing him from the active roster Monday. ESPN’s Todd Archer reported earlier Tuesday that the opened roster spot was intended for Demercado, with Leverett expected to join the practice squad. The team’s announcement confirmed both moves later in the day.

Demercado played at TCU before entering the NFL with Arizona in 2023. Dallas claimed him after Kansas City let him go before this season. Tuesday’s move brings a familiar player back into the running back room as the Cowboys prepare for the Packers.
