The Cowboys signed safety Juanyeh Thomas to the active roster and waived cornerback Caelen Carson on Tuesday, keeping a regular special-teams contributor available after using his three practice-squad elevations.
Dallas also signed quarterback Kyle Trask to the practice squad, filling the opening left when Joe Milton joined the Eagles last week. The moves were announced as the Cowboys prepared for Monday night's game against Philadelphia.
Thomas returned to Dallas' practice squad in late September after an offseason stint with Indianapolis. He had been elevated for each of the Cowboys' past three games. Under the elevation rules described in the team's announcement, Dallas needed to put him on the active roster for him to keep playing.

His workload has largely come on special teams. Thomas has played 65 snaps there across three appearances this season, according to the Cowboys. In his previous three seasons with Dallas, he appeared in 36 games, started three and recorded 62 tackles, five pass breakups and a forced fumble.
Carson leaves the active roster after 17 appearances and eight starts over three seasons. Dallas selected the Wake Forest cornerback in the fifth round of the 2024 draft. The Cowboys credited him with 45 career tackles and six pass breakups.
The active cornerback group now consists of Joey Porter Jr., DaRon Bland, Cobie Durant, Shavon Revel and Ameer Speed. Dallas also has Tyrek Funderburk, Derion Kendrick and Reddy Steward on the practice squad. Steward has already used three elevations this season, the team said.
Durant has missed the past four games with a hamstring injury, and Dallas is hopeful he can return against Philadelphia. The Thomas transaction does not establish Durant's game status.
Trask joins a quarterback room led by Dak Prescott and Sam Howell. He entered the league as Tampa Bay's second-round selection in 2021 and most recently spent training camp with Carolina, NBC Sports reported. His addition gives Dallas another practice-squad option after Milton's departure.
