New Orleans’ anniversary celebration gave way to another game spent chasing. Atlanta scored on its third offensive play, built a 24–7 halftime lead and beat the Saints 45–24 on Monday night. The Falcons moved to 2–2; the Saints dropped to 1–3.
The October 5 game marked 20 years since the Superdome reopened after Hurricane Katrina. Former Saints players joined Steve Gleason for the pregame “Who Dat” chant. Once the game began, however, Atlanta’s running backs controlled the scoring: Bijan Robinson had two rushing touchdowns, and Brian Robinson Jr. had three.
Bijan’s opening 59-yard run gave Atlanta an immediate 7–0 advantage. He finished with 145 yards on 19 carries, while Brian added 62 yards on 14 attempts. Those two backs accounted for five of the Falcons’ six touchdowns.

The Saints’ early mistakes made that first-quarter hole deeper. Daniel Carlson missed a 52-yard field goal attempt. Kendre Miller then lost a fumble at the New Orleans 22, giving Atlanta a short field for Bijan’s four-yard touchdown with 48 seconds left in the quarter. New Orleans had not scored before the Falcons went ahead 14–0.
Alvin Kamara’s three-yard touchdown at the start of the second quarter cut that lead in half. Atlanta promptly restored its advantage with Brian’s four-yard score, followed by Nick Folk’s 29-yard field goal. The Saints entered halftime down 17 points and never brought the margin below two touchdowns afterward.
The pattern continued after the break. A New Orleans field goal was answered by Brian’s eight-yard touchdown. Kamara scored again from five yards early in the fourth, making it 31–17. Michael Penix Jr. then hit Jahan Dotson for a 31-yard touchdown, and Brian’s 11-yard scoring run pushed Atlanta’s lead to 45–17.
Penix completed 15 of 20 passes for 223 yards without an interception. Atlanta produced 420 total yards and committed no turnovers. New Orleans had 320 yards and the game’s only turnover. A late Tyler Shough touchdown pass to Devaughn Vele changed the final margin without threatening Atlanta’s lead.
Chris Olave’s eight catches for 116 yards provided a productive Saints receiving performance, but Shough needed 48 attempts to reach 286 passing yards. New Orleans managed 50 yards on the ground. Kamara had both rushing touchdowns despite finishing with 23 rushing yards.
The Saints were already missing tight end Noah Fant and defenders including Kaden Elliss and Carl Granderson. Their official final recap also reported that Kamara briefly left with a knee injury in the third quarter before returning. The confirmed return describes Monday’s game, without settling his next game status.
The final score reflected a night in which Atlanta answered each meaningful Saints score. New Orleans could move the ball through the air, but its early errors and inability to limit the Falcons’ rushing touchdowns kept a comeback out of reach.
Atlanta’s official game breakdown confirmed two injury departures. Defensive end Za’Darius Smith was ruled out with a concussion in the second quarter after being evaluated for a concussion and neck injury. Left tackle Jake Matthews left with a groin injury and was ruled out before the second half. The team identified Monday as his 200th career game and 199th consecutive start.
