Gabby Williams says she's been too loose as a leader before Valkyries' Game 4 in Atlanta

Golden State trails the WNBA Finals 2-1 and has lost two straight by a combined 40 points. Angel Reese says the Dream are watching the Valkyries' faces for signs they're tired.

  • Gabby Williams has spent this WNBA Finals telling her teammates everything would be fine. After two straight blowout losses, she says that was the problem.

"I have been too much of, 'It's all right, we'll figure it out, we're good, we're good,'" the Golden State star said Friday. "So, I just wanted to show my team something different because we need something different."

  • That something was a fired-up speech in the team huddle after Wednesday's 97-71 loss in Game 3, which went viral. Williams said coach Natalie Nakase has been pushing her to be less relaxed as a leader. "We have to show more fight; we have to get that fire back in our bellies," she said.

  • The Valkyries won Game 1 at home, 68-64, then lost 79-65 at home and by 26 in Atlanta. Game 4 is Saturday at 1 p.m. ET at State Farm Arena on NBC and Peacock. The Dream are 4.5-point favorites.

  • Atlanta is enjoying this. Angel Reese said the Dream study the Valkyries' body language during games. "I'll come into a timeout and say, 'They're tired right now,'" Reese said. "It's just looking at those small things that can give us more of an edge."

Veronica Burton pushed back on the idea that Golden State needs to start playing like Atlanta. She called the Dream a "rah-rah team" and said, "I don't think that's necessarily us." Golden State has come back from deficits of 16 and 17 points earlier in these playoffs.

  • The Dream have their own worry. Allisha Gray, who hurt her left hand in the semifinals and had what she called a minor procedure, wears a brace when she's not playing and is shooting 28.9% in the series. "I am literally playing for eight fingers," she said.

  • A win puts Atlanta one game from the title. A Golden State win ties the series at 2.
