Giannis Antetokounmpo's first night away from Milwaukee ended with both teams in the trade losing. He scored 35 points in his Miami debut, a 131-106 home loss to Minnesota, while the Bucks fell 128-116 at Washington as Anthony Davis put up 34 points and 12 rebounds in his Wizards debut.
Antetokounmpo shot 13 of 19, scored 21 in the first half and fouled out, per the Associated Press. Anthony Edwards scored 45 with nine 3-pointers for the Wolves, and Minnesota outscored Miami 63-24 from deep. The Heat shot 8 of 33 from 3 and have now lost three straight openers.
Milwaukee had the better night of the two, for three quarters at least. The Bucks led for much of the game before Washington took control early in the fourth, AP reported, and the Wizards won that quarter 38-23. Tyler Herro scored 24 points with nine assists in his Bucks debut, and Jaime Jaquez Jr. added 22 on 8-of-12 shooting. Kasparas Jakucionis had 15 off the bench.

Davis shot 11 of 20 and went 11 of 14 at the line. Trae Young had 20 points and 13 assists, Kyshawn George scored 18, and No. 1 pick AJ Dybantsa sat out with an ankle injury. Davis was hurt when Washington acquired him and never played for the Wizards last season, and the crowd was chanting "MVP" before the first quarter ended.
One game settles nothing about the trade, but it hands both fan bases an argument. Miami got a star who can still score 35 on 19 shots, and everyone else in a Heat uniform went 26 of 62 from the field and 8 of 31 from 3. Milwaukee got shooting and depth, and that group hung with a team carrying two stars on the road until the fourth quarter.
The Heat host Detroit on Friday. If Miami's shooters keep missing at this rate, Antetokounmpo's 35-point nights will keep ending like this one. The Bucks' case is simpler: Herro and Jaquez gave them 46 combined in game one, and they need that kind of output to hold up once the schedule gets tougher.
