NBA restricts player-under parlays and other bets at partner sportsbooks

A Friday memo removes several markets and adds integrity measures, ESPN reports.

  • The NBA has told its partner sportsbooks to remove several types of bets this season, including parlays combining the under on the same player’s statistics, ESPN reported Friday.

David Purdum reported that a league memo also bars opening-tip winner bets, wagers on players missing specific shots and under bets on players expected to play fewer than 12 minutes in a game. Sportsbooks also cannot offer alternate under lines with larger payouts.

  • NBA executive vice president Scott Kaufman-Ross told ESPN the league was trying to remove problematic markets without pushing betting into illegal markets. The restrictions operate through the NBA’s agreements with authorized sportsbook partners.

  • The league has not announced formal partnerships with prediction markets, and Kaufman-Ross acknowledged that enforcing the restrictions there could be difficult, Purdum reported.

A separate Friday memo to teams described more integrity training and monitoring, along with a text hotline for reporting harassment and threats from bettors.
