Fans at Canadian Tire Centre booed former Senators captain Brady Tkachuk all game Wednesday night, chanted "We don't need you!" at him and threw Tkachuk jerseys onto the ice, and the Senators beat his Florida Panthers 5-1.
Tkachuk played eight seasons in Ottawa, five as captain. The Senators traded him to Florida on June 21 for three first-round picks and a second-rounder, and general manager Steve Staios said at the time, "What changed was a trade request." Tkachuk still has two seasons left on the seven-year, $57.5 million deal he signed with Ottawa in 2021, per NHL.com.
He did his part early. Tkachuk scored a power-play goal midway through the first period on a pass from his brother, Matthew, according to the Associated Press. Then Ottawa took over. Tim Stutzle tied it in the first, Claude Giroux and Shane Pinto scored in the second, and Warren Foegele and Stephen Halliday added goals in the third.

Fans threw more jerseys during a third-period stoppage while Samuel Ersson came on for Linus Ullmark, who was helped off after an apparent injury.
The third period turned physical. Sam Bennett fought Ridly Greig, and later Brady Tkachuk, Matthew Tkachuk and Bennett got into it with Senators players in front of Ottawa's bench. AP reported a heated exchange between Brady Tkachuk and Dylan Cozens, who set up Foegele's goal.
Tkachuk kept it short afterward. "Start of a road trip, just got to bounce back, move on until tomorrow," he said in a video the Panthers posted.
Coach Paul Maurice said, "You win and you learn in this league."
Ottawa is 7-3-0. Florida, which had won three straight, fell to 5-3-2. Both teams play Thursday at 7 p.m. ET, the Senators at home against San Jose and the Panthers at Pittsburgh.
