  • Update, October 7: The Padres activated Mason Miller from the paternity list for Wednesday’s Game 4 against Milwaukee, restoring their closer to the series roster. Adrian Morejon’s shoulder remained a separate availability question. San Diego survived Game 3 without either reliever and faces another elimination game.

MLB.com’s Brian Murphy reported Miller’s activation before Game 4, with Wandy Peralta leaving the series roster. MLB’s October 7 transaction record also confirms the activation. Matt Snyder of CBS Sports independently reported that Miller was back for the game. Pitching coach Ruben Niebla had earlier told the Associated Press that the team expected Miller’s return. Miller went on the paternity list shortly before Tuesday’s game after his wife went into labor.

Morejon was unavailable because of shoulder discomfort. MLB.com reporter AJ Cassavell’s October 7 post records Craig Stammen’s description and says the manager left open a chance that the left-hander could pitch in Game 4.

  • Cassavell also reported that Morejon had played catch off the mound and that the Padres were being cautious. Matt Wadleigh’s full report for Roundtable describes the uncertainty around both relievers, with Stammen and Niebla leaving Morejon’s possible involvement open. That reporting does not establish an injured-list move or a definite Game 4 clearance.

The missing relievers forced San Diego to finish Tuesday’s 4–3 win with Michael King, who had started the previous game. The Associated Press reports that King recorded the final six outs on 40 pitches, earning his first save since 2023. He allowed a hit in the eighth and two walks in the ninth before Xander Bogaerts turned Christian Yelich’s hard-hit ball into the game-ending double play.

Wadleigh reports that Nick Pivetta, Jason Adam, Yuki Matsui and Bradgley Rodriguez also pitched Tuesday. Morejon had not appeared since his two-inning outing in Game 1, leaving San Diego without one of its usual late-inning options during the next two games.

  • Miller had converted 38 of 41 regular-season save opportunities, according to the Associated Press, so his activation restores an established closing option. San Diego still needs a current availability decision on Morejon. Murphy’s latest MLB.com report said the left-hander would be evaluated before Game 4; his active roster status does not establish that his shoulder is ready for him to pitch.
