Penn State forced three interceptions against Wisconsin and still lost 24-20. Friday’s trip to Northwestern now asks Matt Campbell’s offense to produce more as the Wildcats open the rebuilt Ryan Field at 8 p.m. Eastern on FOX.
Penn State's defense has created opportunities: three interceptions against Wisconsin raised its season total to eight takeaways. Josiah Zayas returned one 51 yards for a touchdown. Daryus Dixson intercepted the next Wisconsin possession, and Tony Rojas added another in the fourth quarter.
Those plays did not prevent Penn State's 24-20 defeat. In his postgame news conference, reported by Blue White Illustrated's Greg Pickel, Matt Campbell said the offense struggled to establish a rhythm. Penn State had led 17-0 and gave up the decisive 72-yard touchdown with 1:13 left.

That leaves Campbell's team needing more from its offense even when the defense supplies possession changes. The Northwestern trip offers an immediate response after its first conference loss, with a USC home game following next week.
Northwestern brings a passing attack that made Indiana work for a 29-23 win last Friday. Aidan Chiles threw for 293 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another score. Griffin Wilde caught both touchdown passes, while Luke Dehnicke finished with seven catches for 140 yards.

Big Ten Network: Penn State at Northwestern preview
Read source ↗ Northwestern hired Chip Kelly to coordinate its offense this season, as Joel Haas reports in StateCollege.com's preview. The Wildcats' recent production makes Chiles and his receivers a concrete test for a Penn State secondary coming off those three interceptions.
The stadium opening supplies the occasion. The standings supply the pressure: either team can leave Friday at 1-1 in the conference, while the loser drops to 0-2. Northwestern won their most recent meeting 22-21 in 2025; tonight's result will come with different personnel and a new home field.
