Ravens reportedly examined Jurgens in Philadelphia before finalizing trade
New reporting describes Baltimore’s medical visit before the deal; Jurgens’ playing clearance remains a separate question.

The Ravens sent their medical staff to Philadelphia to examine Cam Jurgens before finalizing this week's trade for the center, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Saturday. The account describes a different sequence from the failed Maxx Crosby deal earlier this year, when Baltimore agreed to compensation before examining the player.
According to Schefter's reporting, Baltimore's chief medical officer and head trainer traveled to the Eagles' training facility Wednesday morning. They assessed Jurgens, who had back surgery in 2025 and remains in concussion protocol, before the clubs completed the exchange. Yahoo Sports also reported the chronology, attributing it to ESPN.
The Ravens acquired Jurgens and a 2027 seventh-round pick for a 2027 fifth-rounder and a 2028 second-rounder. Baltimore's announcement confirmed the compensation and described Jurgens as a long-term addition to an offensive line that has lost three centers to injured reserve.

There is a distinction between Saturday's reported sequence and the wording used when the transaction was announced. The Eagles' October 7 release described the agreement as pending a physical. Schefter now reports that Baltimore's examination had already occurred before the deal became public. That detail is attributed to his sources; neither team's announcement independently describes the medical visit.
Passing the examination for a trade also does not mean Jurgens is cleared to play Sunday. Schefter reported that his Ravens debut is expected next week against Cleveland, rather than this week's trip to Atlanta. Concussion protocol and preparation for a new offense remain separate questions from completing a transaction.
The context is Baltimore's March agreement to acquire Crosby from Las Vegas for two first-round picks. That deal collapsed after Crosby failed his physical. Schefter's account says the Ravens and Eagles arranged Jurgens' examination while discussing compensation, avoiding a similar delay after announcing the move.
For Baltimore, the roster purpose remains the same: Jurgens can fill center and permit Vega Ioane to return to guard when the new addition is available. Saturday's reporting adds how the clubs handled the medical step. It does not establish a new league rule, a guaranteed Cleveland appearance or clearance from concussion protocol.
