Ravens waste a 10-0 start as Henry's fumble opens door for Browns

Baltimore went scoreless over its final nine possessions and lost 13-10 after an offside call gave Cleveland another kick.

  • Baltimore scored on its first two possessions Sunday and never scored again. That left a defense with five sacks trying to protect a shrinking lead until Derrick Henry's fumble gave Cleveland the opening it needed in a 13-10 Browns victory.

Andre Szmyt won it from 37 yards on an untimed down after Baltimore blocked his first attempt but was penalized for offside. The Browns and Ravens are both 4-2 after Cleveland erased a 10-0 deficit and finished with just two more yards than its opponent.

The afternoon had started with Baltimore moving the ball. Tyler Huntley led an opening touchdown drive and found rookie Josh Cuevas from two yards out. The Ravens' official clip shows Cuevas scoring his first career touchdown:

  • Tyler Loop's 34-yard field goal on the next possession made it 10-0. Baltimore's remaining nine possessions produced no points, including a missed 49-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter that could have restored a two-score advantage.

    Pressure keeps the Ravens ahead

Cleveland's offense was barely functioning in the first half. Deshaun Watson completed three of nine passes for 24 yards, and the Browns reached halftime with 46 yards and three first downs. Baltimore repeatedly put Watson under pressure and finished with five sacks.

Trey Hendrickson had one in his return from a finger procedure. The Ravens' official video shows part of the defensive work that kept Cleveland behind:

  • The Browns finally scored on Szmyt's 48-yard field goal in the third quarter. Baltimore still led 10-3 when Carson Schwesinger forced Henry to fumble and Tyson Campbell recovered at the Ravens' 35.

That field position changed Cleveland's task. The Browns needed seven plays to cover the distance, with Audric Estime scoring on a 2-yard run to tie it with 8:33 remaining. Estime had been signed from Minnesota's practice squad during the week while Cleveland dealt with Quinshon Judkins' ankle injury.

Two empty possessions leave the game exposed

Szmyt missed another 48-yard try later in the fourth quarter. Baltimore could not take advantage: its final two possessions failed to produce a first down. Cleveland got the ball at its 20 with 1:59 left, and Watson found Jerry Jeudy for a 33-yard gain on the winning drive.

The Ravens briefly appeared to have survived when Szmyt's 42-yard attempt was blocked. The offside flag made it no play, however, and his next kick went through from five yards closer.

Huntley, filling in for Lamar Jackson while Jackson remained out with an ankle injury, completed 19 of 31 passes for 165 yards and a touchdown. Henry finished with 58 yards on 17 carries. Baltimore hosts Cincinnati next Sunday after a divisional loss in which its opening 10 points had to last the entire game.
