Baylor Scheierman handed out eight assists and collected five steals in 19 minutes Saturday as the Celtics beat Philadelphia 144-106 in their second preseason game. His passing and defense gave Boston a productive bench appearance even with a small scoring total.
Scheierman made one of three shots, all from beyond the arc, and Boston outscored the Sixers by 18 points while he was on the floor. His eight assists led the Celtics. His five steals matched Paul George for Boston’s highest total. He also committed three turnovers and five fouls, details that belong alongside the productive parts of his night.
Boston.com reporter Tom Westerholm described Scheierman recording six assists before his first credited field-goal attempt, a three-pointer that he made. The sequence included a first-half pass to Hugo González. Westerholm also noted his pursuit of a loose ball into the front row, a visible example of his willingness to keep working through a preseason possession.

Scheierman entered combinations that gave Boston several ways to move the ball. Westerholm described the Celtics replacing Paul George with Scheierman and Mitchell Robinson with Neemias Queta around Jayson Tatum, Payton Pritchard and Sam Hauser. Those minutes offered a look at his place alongside established shooters and a different interior partner.
Boston finished with 35 assists and 16 steals, while Philadelphia committed 23 total turnovers. The Celtics went 22 of 48 from three-point range and scored 41 points in the third quarter. Scheierman's work helped connect those larger team totals to a productive bench appearance.
The game left Boston 2-0 in preseason. The Celtics' broadcaster, NBC Sports Boston, shared a Saturday game clip from TD Garden, offering a view of the team's activity around the basket. It belongs to the same game as Scheierman's bench performance.
