  • On Monday, Nick Sirianni said the Eagles weren't changing quarterbacks. "Tanner's our guy," he said. "We're not making any changes there."

By Wednesday they had. Joe Milton will start Sunday against the New York Giants and Tanner McKee goes to the bench, ESPN's Adam Schefter and NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported.

  • Milton becomes Philadelphia's third different starter this season and the fourth Eagles quarterback to throw a pass, after Jalen Hurts, Andy Dalton and McKee.

  • Who Milton is

Philadelphia signed Milton off the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad on Oct. 16, the day before Hurts went on injured reserve with blood clots in his lungs. Hurts is expected to miss the rest of the season.

New England took Milton in the sixth round in 2024 and traded him to Dallas in April 2025. He has played in five NFL games, all in relief. The best of them came in Week 18 of his rookie year, when he went 22 of 29 for 241 yards and a touchdown and ran for another score, according to NFL.com.

  • Why McKee lost the job

McKee went 0-3 as the starter. He completed 63.2% of his passes for 638 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Sunday's loss at Washington made it six straight, after the Eagles let a 10-0 lead turn into a 27-10 defeat.

  • The take

The Eagles have run through four quarterbacks in eight games, and the coach's public backing lasted 48 hours. Milton has a strong arm and can run, which is something different. The bigger problem is the 2-6 record and last place in the NFC East.

Hurts did show up at the team facility Wednesday and sat in on meetings, ESPN's Tim McManus reported, the first time some players had seen him since he went on IR. He didn't address the team.

The Giants lead the division and come to Philadelphia on Sunday.
