The PGA Tour pledged $13 million to protect charity at events moving to the Challenger Series

Tim and Holly Finchem pledged $13 million toward a new PGA Tour Charities strategy during Tour Championship week. The announcement places community giving beside competitive reform, rather than treating it as a separate annual total.

The key commitment concerns tournaments that will move into the Challenger Series in 2028. The Tour said it would cover shortfalls needed to maintain current charitable levels for those events. That promise recognizes the risk that a lower competitive tier could draw less sponsorship and attention.

A renewed $250,000 HBCU Golf Impact Grant adds another measure of intent. It is smaller than the headline pledge, but it directs money toward access and program development rather than only protecting existing event beneficiaries.

The hard part comes later, when the Tour must show stable local dollars after the schedule changes. Charity totals are one of professional golf's strongest public claims. By attaching a guarantee to the 2028 structure, the Tour has made that claim auditable.
