  • The Bank of Utah Championship completed its second round Saturday, October 3, after Friday's darkness suspension. The final cut was six under, with 70 players advancing to the weekend, according to the PGA Tour's official leaderboard captured at 2:03 p.m. Eastern.

Alejandro Tosti and Jesper Svensson both finished at seven under, with rounds of 66–69 and 68–67 respectively. Amateur Bowen Mauss finished at even par and missed the cut. Those results close the three unfinished rounds carried into Saturday morning.

Jackson Koivun qualified at six-under 136 after rounds of 69 and 67. His last-hole birdie proved enough to reach the weekend; the PGA Tour shared that finish:

Tony Finau missed at four under after rounds of 70 and 68, and Maverick McNealy missed at five under after 69–68. The official leaderboard now lists both as cut.

Austin Smotherman's 17-under 125 remained the completed 36-hole lead, one stroke ahead of Kevin Roy. The third round was in progress at the time of checking; their final group was scheduled for 2:35 p.m. Eastern. These are second-round results, with the tournament still continuing.

  • Earlier reporting: Friday, October 2

Kevin Roy has gone 36 holes without a bogey at Black Desert Resort and still trails Austin Smotherman. Two rounds of 63 left Roy one stroke behind the Bank of Utah Championship's overnight leader, whose closing run of three birdies produced a Friday 62 and a 17-under total.

That is the demand this course has placed on the field. Smotherman hit all 18 greens in regulation, Field Level Media reports, then converted birdie chances on 16, 17 and 18 to separate himself. His completed 125 leads Roy's 126, with Doug Ghim and Kevin Streelman tied on 127.

Roy has supplied consistency across both days. Five of his eight Friday birdies came on the back nine, which he played first. He entered the tournament 87th in the FedExCup Fall standings, and told reporters that keeping his Tour job comes first. A place near the top this week would help that objective, but a Friday position does not secure a season-long outcome.

Smotherman, in his 100th PGA Tour start according to the Associated Press, is chasing a first victory. His 62 matches his career low, and the finish gave him his second 36-hole lead of the year after the Cognizant Classic, where he tied for second.

There is pressure behind the leading pair, too. Ghim matched Smotherman's Friday 62 after opening with 65. Streelman shot 64 after a first-round 63 and entered this week 151st in the points standings. The official leaderboard places both at 15 under. Stephan Jaeger's 65 moved him to 14 under, while Thursday leader Zach Bauchou's 69 left him six behind Smotherman.

The lower end of the leaderboard makes the same point about scoring. Jackson Koivun birdied his final hole to reach six-under 136 after a 67. The PGA Tour's late-Friday leaderboard showed six under as the projected cut. Tony Finau finished at four under, and several established players, including Maverick McNealy, Lucas Glover and Max Greyserman, finished at five under.

Friday's play was suspended for darkness with three players still on the course, Field Level Media reports. That keeps the distinction between a strong completed score and a finished tournament round relevant. Smotherman owns the overnight lead; the second round and the cut still need to be completed.

The PGA Tour has scheduled the second-round resumption for 11 a.m. Eastern Saturday, followed by third-round starting times from approximately 11:20 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. off the first and 10th tees.
