  1. The Celtics will introduce Paul George, Mitchell Robinson and Mike Conley on Tuesday afternoon, September 15, at the Auerbach Center, putting three major offseason additions in front of reporters before Boston opens training camp.

Noa Dalzell reported the arrangements Friday, citing the team, with president of basketball operations Brad Stevens and coach Joe Mazzulla also scheduled to attend. NESN subsequently reported the same date. The announcement sets up a useful opportunity to hear how Boston plans to fit three very different veterans into its rotation.

Dalzell’s original report identifies the players, location and team officials expected at the introduction.

  2. George’s fit is the biggest question

George arrived from Philadelphia in the trade that sent Jaylen Brown to the 76ers. That makes his introduction more than a routine welcome: Boston is asking a new wing to join Jayson Tatum after breaking up a partnership that had defined the team.

Stevens has already offered a broad explanation of the basketball fit. In an August 16 Celtics All-Access episode, Stevens praised George’s feel for the game and described him as a fit for Boston’s style and lineup. Tuesday gives George and Mazzulla a chance to explain that fit in their own terms.

The questions are practical. Where does George expect to get his touches? How will Boston divide creation responsibilities? And which combinations does Mazzulla want to try first? Those are questions for the coming practices and exhibitions, rather than conclusions that can be drawn from a roster announcement.

The team’s August video shows the veterans’ earlier visits to Boston; it is background for Tuesday’s introduction, not footage of the upcoming event. George’s segment starts around 4:00, followed by Robinson at 5:12 and Conley at 5:45.

  4. Different jobs for Robinson and Conley

Robinson and Conley address different needs. In the same team video, Stevens pointed to Robinson’s championship experience and explained that Conley could contribute without needing to play every minute.

That distinction matters when evaluating the additions. Robinson’s value will be tied to what happens around the basket; Conley can influence possessions through decisions and organization without needing to be a leading scorer. Hearing Mazzulla discuss their intended responsibilities should be more useful than treating all three newcomers as interchangeable veteran depth.

Tuesday is an introduction, not a lineup announcement. The reported arrangements do not establish starting jobs, minutes or a television broadcast. Those details should be assessed when the team actually supplies them.

For Celtics fans, the immediate development is a date on the calendar and access to the people making the decisions. With Stevens, Mazzulla and all three players expected together, Boston has an opportunity to give a clearer account of how the roster is supposed to work before the games begin.
