  • Sacramento finally has a reason to watch. It still doesn't have a win.

Rookie Darius Acuff Jr. scored 38 points on Saturday night in Memphis, making 9 of 14 3-pointers, and the Kings lost 136-105 to the Grizzlies anyway. Sacramento is 0-6. Memphis is 6-0, the last unbeaten team in the NBA and tied with the 2014-15 team for the best start in franchise history, according to the Associated Press.

  • Acuff did everything he could early. He had 21 points by halftime and kept the Kings within 66-55 at the break. Two nights earlier, against New Orleans, he scored 34 in another loss. Over two games, the rookie has 72 points and the Kings have nothing to show for them.

  • Then the third quarter happened. Memphis outscored Sacramento 42-25, and the lead reached 34. Rookie Cameron Boozer had 27 points and nine rebounds, Isaiah Stewart added 24, and GG Jackson went 5 for 5 from 3-point range for 21. Cam Spencer, starting at point guard with Ty Jerome and Scotty Pippen Jr. out with back issues, had 13 assists. The Grizzlies shot 55% and made half of their 38 3-pointers, per the ESPN box score.

The Kings' veterans gave Acuff little help. De'Andre Hunter scored 19. Domantas Sabonis and Zach LaVine had 11 each, and LaVine finished minus-23 in 21 minutes.

  • The Kings have a star scorer in the making and a roster that can't stop anybody around him. Memphis isn't a fluke, but giving up 136 points with a full week of evidence about what is wrong is on the coaching staff and the front office. Acuff is the only Sacramento story worth watching right now, and that's a problem.

  • What's next: The Kings play at Dallas on Monday night, still looking for their first win. Memphis hosts New Orleans the same night and goes for 7-0, which would be the best start the franchise has ever had.
