Oregon State came to Fresno with five straight wins and left with its lowest-scoring game of the season. Fresno State beat the Beavers 38-22 on Saturday night at Valley Children's Stadium, and Jayden Mandal accounted for four touchdowns.
Mandal only threw 17 passes. He completed 11 for 202 yards, hit Josiah Freeman for touchdowns of 26 and 31 yards and ran for two more scores, according to the ESPN box score. Bryson Donelson added 108 rushing yards on 16 carries, and his 63-yard touchdown run in the second quarter was Fresno State's longest run of the season.
Oregon State moved the ball and kept stalling. Caleb Ojeda kicked field goals of 54, 28 and 29 yards in the first half, and Fresno State answered each of the last two with a touchdown. The Bulldogs led 21-9 at halftime and 38-16 after three quarters.

Braden Atkinson threw 59 times. He completed 33 for 373 yards, and his only touchdown pass, a 9-yarder to Eric Olsen, came with 1:45 left and the game decided. DeCorion Temple caught six passes for 97 yards, and freshman Jesse Legree had seven catches for 70.
The numbers tell you how Oregon State lost. The Beavers outgained Fresno State 450 to 392 and had 25 first downs to the Bulldogs' 15. They also lost two fumbles, failed on all three fourth-down tries and gave up five sacks, two of them by Dylan Hampsten, according to the AP. Oregon State had allowed nine sacks in its first seven games.
This is the first loss for Oregon State (5-3, 3-1 Pac-12) since it opened the season with defeats to Houston and Texas Tech. Fresno State (5-3, 2-2) had lost back-to-back games for the first time this year and needed this one.
What's next: Oregon State hosts Texas State on Saturday, after the Bobcats took No. 20 Boise State to the final minutes this week. Fresno State plays at Utah State. The Beavers still lead Fresno State in the league standings, but a passing game that needs 59 throws to score 22 points won't hold that lead for long.
