The Los Angeles Lakers recalled rookie guard Cameron Carr from the Coachella Valley Lakers on Saturday, a day after his G League debut, RotoWire reported and Lakers Nation confirmed. The same recall brought third-year guard Bronny James Jr. back from the affiliate.
Carr, the No. 24 overall pick out of Baylor, started Friday night as Coachella Valley beat the Salt Lake City Stars 104-98 in the affiliate's Palm Desert opener. He finished with 13 points and four rebounds on 5-of-11 shooting in about 20 minutes, per Heavy and the game reports, and scored the franchise's first basket on an and-one. Coach JJ Redick had framed the Thursday assignment as a reps move: Carr and James needed to play because NBA minutes were scarce behind Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves.
Carr missed the start of the season with a right oblique strain, then logged only a few minutes across early Lakers games before the assignment. The Lakers had assigned both guards Thursday ahead of the opener. The overnight shuttle, assign Thursday, debut Friday, recall Saturday, is the development path for a first-rounder on a deep Western contender. James posted 22 points, five rebounds and seven assists in the same win, but he is a third-year depth piece, not the rising story.

For prospect and dynasty trackers, mark Carr as active with the big club again after a clean G League sample. Do not expect a sudden rotation leap while Los Angeles is healthy, but keep him on the shuttle watch. The rising angle is the No. 24 pick getting a live start, producing in 20 minutes, and coming back up the next day.
What to watch: Carr's availability for the Lakers' next NBA game, whether Redick gives him garbage-time run, and if another Coachella assignment follows the next quiet stretch on the schedule.
