  • Notre Dame, Nebraska and Navy each had a fourth-quarter lead and still lost in the October 17 college football night games. Florida State forced Miami into a second overtime, then saw its final possession end with a play ruled an interception after review, following a holding penalty that erased a potential touchdown.

Nine of the 22 games in this prime-time and late slate were decided by eight points or fewer. Oregon converted two fourth downs on its winning drive. Houston ran out the clock after Oklahoma State's last touchdown, and Kentucky's defense supplied its final score.

Notre Dame's last chance ends with a clock error

BYU's Bear Bachmeier threw a six-yard touchdown pass to Walker Lyons with 1:47 remaining, giving the Cougars their 28-24 winning margin. Notre Dame had taken the lead on Jonaz Walton's touchdown run and two-point conversion, then intercepted Bachmeier. BYU forced a punt before mounting the winning drive.

  • The Associated Press reported that the Big 12 acknowledged time remained when CJ Carr's pass hit the ground and that replay officials incorrectly cleared the play. The recorded result stayed 28-24; the acknowledgment concerned the chance for another snap.

ESPN published these final moments from the game:

  • Bryce Fitzgerald was ruled to have intercepted Florida State's final pass after review, ending Miami's 43-35 double-overtime win. A potential Seminoles touchdown had been called back for holding on the previous play.

  • Malachi Toney's second-overtime touchdown put Miami ahead, but the Hurricanes had already failed to protect a late regulation lead when Duce Robinson caught a 75-yard touchdown pass. ACC Digital Network published its official rivalry highlights:

  • Oregon and UTSA rally; Houston runs out the clock

Nebraska's 14-6 lead entering the fourth quarter survived until Dylan Raiola directed Oregon's late rally. A four-yard touchdown pass to Jamari Johnson with 28 seconds left completed the turnaround. Oregon converted two fourth downs on the winning drive despite struggling on third down throughout the game.

Navy led UTSA 34-31 with 4:50 remaining before Owen McCown found A'Marion Peterson for a 41-yard score. Houston handled a similar threat differently. After Oklahoma State cut its deficit to 35-32, Conner Weigman helped the Cougars consume the final 4:54.

Kentucky protected a 14-13 lead at Oklahoma until Jordan Castell returned an interception 41 yards for a touchdown with 1:17 left. North Dakota State got an even less conventional contribution: a missed-kick return touchdown and a defensive two-point return against Nevada.

TCU allowed Baylor no touchdowns, while Stanford's Micah Ford scored four on the ground against Elon. Every result in the table below links to its individual report.
