Robert Griffin III wants to be Baylor's next football coach. He has never coached at any level.
"Yes, 100 percent," Griffin said Monday on "The Dan Patrick Show" when asked if he was interested in replacing Dave Aranda, whom Baylor fired Sunday. Griffin said he had talked with athletic director Doug McNamee.
His pitch is about who knows how to win in Waco. "If Baylor wants to get back to winning and have a university that isn't just respectable on the football field, but the fans can be proud of, they need people who know what it looks like to win at Baylor," Griffin said, according to the Associated Press.

Nobody has a better claim to that than he does. Griffin won the 2011 Heisman Trophy, Baylor's only one, throwing for 4,293 yards and 37 touchdowns with six interceptions and running for 699 yards and 10 more. That team went 10-3, the program's first 10-win season since 1980.
But a résumé as a quarterback is not a résumé as a head coach. Griffin is 36 and works as a college football analyst for Fox Sports. He played seven NFL seasons after Washington took him second overall in 2012.
Baylor doesn't sound like it is in a hurry. McNamee wrote in an open letter Monday that the search is underway but that a hire likely won't come before December. "We want to bring in someone who will launch a generation of consistent winning," he wrote.
Aranda went 40-40 in six and a half seasons. The Bears are 4-3 and 2-2 in the Big 12, and 26-31 since their 12-win, Big 12 title season in 2021. Interim coach Joe Klanderman takes them to UCF on Friday night.
