Two nights after looking lost without Anthony Edwards, the Minnesota Timberwolves ran the Los Angeles Clippers out of Target Center. Minnesota won 127-101 on Friday in NBA Cup group play, its first win since Edwards had arthroscopic knee surgery.
LaMelo Ball scored a season-high 24 points with six 3-pointers and seven assists. Jaden McDaniels added 23 on 11-of-15 shooting with seven assists and six rebounds, according to the ESPN box score. Bones Hyland scored 19 with eight assists off the bench.
Minnesota pulled away with a 20-2 run in the fourth, when Ball made three 3-pointers, per the Associated Press. The Wolves shot 51 of 95, had 32 assists and scored 62 points in the paint. Rudy Gobert grabbed 13 rebounds. All four of their wins this season have come by more than 20.

That matters because Wednesday was ugly. Minnesota lost 119-114 to Golden State in its first game after a new exam showed Edwards needed the procedure. He played a career-low 61 games last season because of the same wear-and-tear problem.
The Clippers are the bigger story, and not in a good way. They are 1-4 and have dropped four straight, all while playing without newcomers Brandon Ingram and Max Strus, who both have foot injuries. Darius Garland scored 24 but needed 22 shots and turned it over five times, with reserve Jaylen Clark doing a lot of the work on him. Rookie Keaton Wagler went 2 of 11 and was minus-24. Los Angeles shot 35 of 85 and committed 17 turnovers.
The RANT take: a team with Garland, Hachimura and Brook Lopez shouldn't be getting run by a Minnesota team missing its best player. Ingram and Strus can't come back soon enough, and five games in, the Clippers look like they need both of them just to be average.
What's next: The Wolves are 4-2 and visit San Antonio on Saturday. The Clippers play at Golden State on Sunday, where the Warriors just came back from 25 down to beat the Lakers.
