  1. A sofa that actually fits your friends is a pretty good starting point for a dream house. Devin Booker took that idea a few feet further.

In Architectural Digest's 2022 Arizona home feature, custom 12-foot sofas accommodated his unusually tall guests. Kathleen and Tommy Clements worked with Karan Brady Interiors on the rooms. Retracting glass walls connected the house to a yard with a Bali-inspired pool, while a James Turrell light work gave the dining room its own visual draw. See AD's original feature.

The detail to steal is the generosity of the seating. Plenty of luxury rooms look as though someone would stop you from putting a drink down. A long, comfortable sofa suggests the opposite: bring a few people over and settle in. You can appreciate that choice without wanting every object around it.

Then there is the relationship between a room and its view. If you already have something lovely outside, furniture does not need to compete with it. Leave yourself somewhere comfortable to look out. That is a more useful takeaway than trying to duplicate a celebrity shopping list.

Play the official tour and choose your upgrade: the extra-long sofa or the ability to open the room toward the pool? For a lazy afternoon with friends, the sofa makes a surprisingly strong case.
