Dallas Goedert scored twice, Jalen Hurts threw three touchdown passes and Philadelphia stopped Washington’s tying two-point attempt to escape with a 24–22 win Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field. Moro Ojomo’s tackle on the late conversion preserved the Eagles’ lead after the Commanders had driven back within reach in the final minute.

Hurts completed 14 of 25 passes for 203 yards without an interception and added 46 rushing yards. Goedert caught four passes for 77 yards, including the 43-yard touchdown that gave Philadelphia an eight-point cushion with 6:02 remaining. The Eagles needed nearly all of it.

Washington answered with a drive that ended in Jayden Daniels’ 1-yard touchdown pass to Antonio Williams with 1:01 left. Daniels then completed a shovel pass to John Bates on the two-point attempt, but Ojomo stopped the tight end short. DeVonta Smith recovered the ensuing onside kick, allowing Philadelphia to finish in victory formation.

The win included a promising debut for Dontayvion Wicks. His 64-yard catch set up Goedert’s first touchdown, a 17-yard reception early in the second quarter. Wicks later caught a 9-yard touchdown himself, and his two receptions produced 73 yards. Saquon Barkley’s 42-yard run helped create that second scoring opportunity.

Philadelphia led 14–9 at halftime after Jacory Croskey-Merritt’s short touchdown run brought Washington closer. Jalen Carter blocked Drew Stevens’ extra point. Stevens also missed a 54-yard field goal in the third quarter, leaving Washington to make up points late.

Daniels found Stefon Diggs for a 10-yard touchdown with 9:59 remaining, cutting the Eagles’ lead to 17–16. Philadelphia’s response depended on Hurts extending a possession: on third-and-18, he scrambled 22 yards for a first down. Goedert’s long catch-and-run touchdown followed, restoring the margin Washington would spend its final drive chasing.

The Eagles still have work to do in Sean Mannion’s offense. Bleeding Green Nation’s Brandon Lee Gowton described an uneven debut in which explosive plays covered for offensive-line problems. Hurts took three sacks, and Philadelphia’s scoring arrived in bursts. Barkley finished with 83 yards on 15 carries, while Smith caught three passes for 53 yards.

Washington’s passing game had its own limits. Daniels finished 18 of 34 for 164 yards and two touchdowns. Williams led the Commanders with 64 receiving yards on four catches; Diggs had four for 55 yards and a touchdown. Terry McLaurin managed two receptions for 14 yards, though his fourth-down catch helped keep the final touchdown drive alive.

Croskey-Merritt led Washington with 63 rushing yards on 16 carries. The Commanders got close enough to force one decisive defensive play, but Philadelphia made it. The Eagles open 1–0 and head to Tennessee next; Washington starts 0–1 after a division game decided by the failed conversion.
