Klay Thompson got the ovation. Stephen Curry got the night.
Thompson returned to Chase Center in a Heat jersey Thursday and scored 11 points on 3-of-10 shooting as Miami lost to Golden State 120-100. A night after his overtime winner in Inglewood, he couldn't slow a Warriors team that has now won six straight since an 0-3 start. Miami is 3-6.
The reunion was the story before tip. Andrew Wiggins also faced his former club and finished with two points on 1-of-6 shooting. Once the ball went up, Golden State treated it like a cleanup job after halftime.

The game was tied 53-53 at the break. Golden State then scored 38 in the third and outscored Miami 26-9 in one stretch of that quarter. Curry, who was 2 of 10 before the half, poured in 22 of his 29 after intermission and hit six 3s. Draymond Green dealt a season-high 11 assists. Yaxel Lendeborg put up 17 points, eight rebounds and six assists.
Davion Mitchell led Miami with 22 points and eight assists. Giannis Antetokounmpo had 20 and 14. Bam Adebayo added 18 and 10. That was enough volume on paper and not enough resistance when Golden State started making threes at will. The Warriors went 16 of 41 from deep. Miami was 13 of 44 and turned it over 22 times.
The take
- Thompson's homecoming was ceremonial more than decisive: 11 points, two blocks, three turnovers.
- Miami's West Coast trip is already 0-1 against Golden State after the Clippers thriller, with Sacramento still ahead Sunday.
- Golden State is 6-3 and looks nothing like the club that opened 0-3 while resting stars and sorting minutes.
Curry also passed Oscar Robertson for 17th on the career scoring list on an early 3. The NBA noted he became the first player with four straight games of five or more 3s at age 38 or older. None of that helped Miami, which never got the third-quarter hole under control.
Golden State hosts Orlando on Saturday. Miami visits Sacramento on Sunday.
