The Warriors sat Stephen Curry and Draymond Green on Sunday night, and a rookie made sure nobody missed them. Yaxel Lendeborg scored a career-high 37 points as Golden State beat the Los Angeles Clippers 124-112 at Chase Center, per the AP recap on ESPN.
Golden State is 4-3 and has won four straight since starting 0-3. The Clippers have lost five in a row and sit at 1-5.
The rookie's night
Lendeborg shot 13 for 19, went 6 of 11 from 3-point range and added six assists. The AP said it was the most points by a Warriors rookie since Curry scored 42 at Portland on April 14, 2010. It's also his second 30-point game in his first seven, which the AP said puts him with Wilt Chamberlain and Rick Barry as the only Warriors to do that.

Golden State let it fly
The Warriors went 22 of 49 from deep and had 32 assists on 46 baskets. De'Anthony Melton scored 21 and hit 6 of 8 threes. Brandin Podziemski had 17 points, eight rebounds and eight assists, and Brandon Williams scored 17 off a bench that put up 40.
The Clippers actually led 37-29 after the first quarter. Golden State won the second quarter 34-20, led 63-57 at halftime and 92-85 after three, and went up by as many as 22.
Same problems for the Clippers
Rui Hachimura scored 24 on 10-of-16 shooting, and Kobe Sanders added 16 off the bench. Darius Garland had 15 but shot 4 of 12 and 1 of 7 from 3. Kris Dunn grabbed seven steals, which was about the only part of the defense that showed up. The Clippers went 18 of 19 at the line and still lost by 12.
The RANT take
Losing to a short-handed opponent is how a skid gets ugly, and that's where the Clippers are. Golden State played the front end of a back-to-back without its two biggest names and won by double digits. For the Warriors, Lendeborg looks like a real second option, which changes how they can manage Curry's minutes all season.
Both teams play again Monday. The Clippers host Toronto, and the Warriors host Phoenix in the second half of a home back-to-back.
