  1. For three quarters, No. 1 Ohio State had Texas pinned. The Longhorns turned the ball over twice, trailed 20-3 at halftime and still faced a 23-3 hole after the Buckeyes opened the fourth quarter with another field goal.

  2. Then Texas found a way back. Arch Manning hit Ryan Wingo for a touchdown, and the Longhorns followed with two more fourth-quarter scoring drives. Hollywood Smothers finished the comeback with a 1-yard touchdown run with 25 seconds left.

  3. Ohio State still had a chance. After Smothers scored, the Buckeyes drove into range for Connor Hawkins, who had already made three field goals. His 45-yard attempt missed, giving Texas the opening to finish the winning drive.

  4. The numbers show how lopsided the game was before it flipped. Ohio State finished with 372 yards to Texas' 336 and controlled the first three quarters. Texas converted 9 of 16 third downs, while Ohio State went 6 of 14. Manning finished 23 of 37 for 195 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Smothers carried 21 times for 74 yards and two scores.

  5. Texas is 2-0 after beating the No. 1 team in the country at home. Ohio State is 1-1, left to explain how a 20-point lead disappeared in fifteen minutes.
