  • The Sacramento Kings found a way to lose to the other winless team on the floor. New Orleans beat them 132-120 on Thursday night, and Sacramento is now 0-5.

The number that explains it is 25. That is how many turnovers the Kings committed, according to the ESPN box score, against a Pelicans team that came in 0-4 and was missing Jordan Poole (ankle) and Dejounte Murray (birth of a child). New Orleans finished with 18 steals, 34 fast-break points and 80 points in the paint.

  • Sacramento actually shot the ball fine. It made 52 percent from the field and had 31 assists. It led 30-24 after the first quarter and by as many as eight. Then the Pelicans took the lead for good on Trey Murphy III's free throws late in the second quarter and ran off a 16-2 burst in the third, the Associated Press reported.

  • The rookie did his part. Darius Acuff Jr. scored a career-high 34 points with 14 assists on 13-of-26 shooting. Precious Achiuwa went 12 of 17 for 24 points, and De'Andre Hunter added 24.

The veterans are where this gets uncomfortable. Domantas Sabonis came in leading the league at 16.5 rebounds per game and grabbed 15, but he scored nine points and turned it over seven times. Zach LaVine scored 21 on 17 shots and was a minus-25. The Kings' bench was outscored 41-8.

New Orleans got its first win under coach Jamahl Mosley from a rookie of its own. Jeremiah Fears had 22 points, 13 assists and eight rebounds. Zion Williamson went 10 of 12, all in the paint.

  • The Kings visit Memphis on Saturday. The Grizzlies came into Thursday unbeaten. Sacramento can score with almost anyone, but a team that hands the ball over 25 times is not winning that game either.
