The Ravens sign Kedon Slovis with three quarterbacks hurt before Thursday

Baltimore added Slovis off Green Bay's practice squad Tuesday. With Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley out and Joe Fagnano nursing an ankle, the Ravens still haven't named a starter for Jacksonville.

  • The Baltimore Ravens signed quarterback Kedon Slovis to their 53-man roster on Tuesday, taking him off the Green Bay Packers' practice squad. The team announced the move after reporter Tom Pelissero broke the news.

  • Slovis now joins Joe Fagnano and Austin Reed as Baltimore's options for Thursday night's home game against Jacksonville, per Pelissero. Ravens quarterbacks coach Israel Woolfork coached Slovis in Arizona, so there is at least one familiar face in the building.

  • How the Ravens got here

Lamar Jackson hurt his right thumb on the first play of Sunday's 36-10 loss at Buffalo. He is headed to injured reserve, and coach Jesse Minter said the injury could "potentially" end his season, per ESPN. Backup Tyler Huntley is out Thursday with a toe injury.

  • That pushed undrafted rookie Fagnano to the top of the depth chart, and he has an ankle problem of his own. He was limited in Monday's walk-through. "To Joe's credit, he's kind of fighting through a couple things he's dealing with," Minter said. "But expect him to have a chance to play on Thursday."

Reed, signed to the practice squad Monday, knows offensive coordinator Declan Doyle's system from their time together in Chicago. If Fagnano starts, he would be only the second undrafted rookie quarterback to start for Baltimore, after Anthony Brown in the 2022 finale.

    A season sliding away

The Ravens are 4-4, have lost three straight and sit last in the AFC North. Now they have to beat a 5-2 Jaguars team on a short week with whoever is healthy enough to take snaps.

  • Minter said the team would "figure that out over the next day or two." This week's practice reports are the first real clue. If Fagnano can't go, the Ravens could turn to a quarterback who has been in the building for a day.
