Hye-Jin Choi finishes one shot back for the second week in a row and is still looking for her first LPGA win

Choi tied for second at the BMW Ladies Championship in Korea a week after losing in Shanghai by one. She has 125 career starts as an LPGA member without a victory.

  • Hye-Jin Choi shot 69 on Sunday at the BMW Ladies Championship in South Korea and finished one shot behind the winner for the second straight week. Yuri Yoshida of Japan won at 17 under for her first LPGA Tour title, and Choi tied Haeran Ryu for second at 16 under.

  • A week ago in Shanghai, Choi led after each of the first three rounds and lost by one when Ruoning Yin made a late birdie, according to ESPN and Sky Sports. Choi is still looking for her first win in 125 career LPGA Tour starts as a member, and she has held or shared the 54-hole lead five times without converting, Sky Sports reported.

This time she was chasing. Choi started Sunday tied for second, four shots behind Ryu, and made four birdies against one bogey. She got within two of the lead during the round and finished one back, but Yoshida had already made an eagle and three straight birdies early on.

  • Ryu had the bigger collapse. She took a four-shot lead into the final round, made 15 straight pars, then bogeyed the 16th and the 18th around a birdie at 17 for a 73. Yoshida bogeyed 18 too and still won by one.

The RANT take: Ryu will get the headlines for giving away four shots, but Choi's two weeks are the harder thing to explain. Back-to-back runner-up finishes by a single stroke, one after leading for 54 holes and one after rallying, is what good golf without a win looks like. Five 54-hole leads with no title is a pattern now.

The LPGA's Asian swing moves to Kuala Lumpur next week for the Maybank Championship.
