Shane Steichen hasn't thought about benching Daniel Jones after 108 yards and a late interception in Minnesota

Jones went 13 of 22 and threw into double coverage on the Colts' final drive of a 16-10 loss to the unbeaten Vikings. Indianapolis is 2-5, and Steichen says he has "a ton of faith" in his quarterback.

  • Daniel Jones didn't reach 100 passing yards until his last completion Sunday, then threw the interception that ended the Colts' final drive. His coach isn't moving off him.

"I have not thought about a quarterback change," Shane Steichen said after the 16-10 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, according to ESPN. "I've got a ton of faith in Daniel. That game plan today was to go run the football and, obviously, at the end, he had the interception. And that happens in football."

Jones finished 13 of 22 for 108 yards. The interception came with about a minute left, decent field position and a timeout still in hand. Jones didn't defend it. "Obviously, a poor decision there. Can't afford to do that," he said.

  • Steichen has some cover for this one game. Brian Flores' Minnesota defense blitzed on 85% of dropbacks, the second-highest rate by any team in the past 20 seasons, per ESPN, and it ranks second in opposing QBR and passing yards allowed.

The season is harder to explain away. Jones is completing a career-low 59.6% of his passes, his 41.2 QBR is the second-lowest of his career, and he has four touchdown passes against seven interceptions in seven games. ESPN said that ratio ranked 33rd in the league after Sunday's early games. Indianapolis is 2-5.

The obvious alternative comes with its own problems. Backup Anthony Richardson Sr. hasn't started since 2024 and was charged last week in a marijuana possession case in an Indianapolis suburb, ESPN reported.

  • "I know my job is to play well for the team to win the game," Jones said. "So, I've got to do a better job."
