The New York Knicks were up 10 on the Orlando Magic with 9:20 to play on Sunday night. They lost 111-102, and the defending champions are 0-3.
That hasn't happened to a title team since the 2011-12 Dallas Mavericks, according to the Associated Press. The Knicks haven't won a game that counts since Game 5 of the NBA Finals.
This one was theirs. New York opened on a 12-0 run at Madison Square Garden and led 86-76 after an OG Anunoby floater early in the fourth quarter. Orlando was playing without Paolo Banchero and would lose Jalen Suggs to a knee injury before the night was over.

Then Franz Wagner took over. Wagner had started 1 of 10 from the field. He scored nine points in an 11-0 run that gave the Magic their first lead of the game at 87-86 with 7:25 left, and he finished with 21 of his 23 points in the fourth. Orlando closed on a 35-16 run.
The Knicks helped. They committed eight of their 14 turnovers in the fourth quarter and went 9 of 38 from 3-point range for the game, while Orlando made 18 3s. Anthony Black, who missed the first two games with a bad ankle, went 5 for 7 from deep, and Tristan da Silva made 5 of 9.
Jalen Brunson scored 28, but it took him 28 shots and he went 1 for 7 from 3. Karl-Anthony Towns had 22 points and 14 rebounds and went 0 for 4 from deep. Anunoby scored 10 of his 22 in the fourth and was the only Knick who kept the offense moving once Orlando took over. Mikal Bridges had six points on seven shots in 35 minutes.
Three games is three games. But this was a home game against a team missing its best player, with a 10-point lead and nine minutes to protect it, and Orlando got its first win under Sean Sweeney instead.
It doesn't get easier. The unbeaten Detroit Pistons are at the Garden on Tuesday.
